My Kinder Kids love to work with a partner. I love setting it up because I know a secret. I tried many ways of organizing partners because I know there is Power In Partners. It was always a bit sticky until... I found the BEST solution. Are you hungry to know the secret to making partner time work? It is as simple as making a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. Kids LOVE PB&J. They know all about PB&J sandwiches And that makes it a SNAP! When I told my kinder kids we were going to have Peanut Butter & Jelly Partners... they smiled. When I showed the PB&J cards... their smiles grew. When I slapped the PB&J cards together and said they would "stick together like a PB&J Sandwich"... they laughed out loud. It was magic. It was FUN! It was wonderful and it lasted all year. It took very little explaining because they understood how to "stick together" as Peanut Butter & Jelly Partners. Over the years I have tried partners in many ways but it never worked without lots of explaining. PB&J Partners made it easy and FUN. I used Peanut Butter & Jelly Partners for reading and math and more. You can do partners however you wish but I love Peanut Butter & Jelly Partners! They make it more productive and FUN and I love FUN. Click & Print PB&J Cards. Hint: print on cardstock and laminate.
Freebie Thanks To HeartsalaCarte.com I will share an example from my classroom. We started our day with Peanut Butter & Jelly Partner Reading. I would put the PB&J Cards on the white board. A star magnet was beside the Peanut Butter Card to show Peanut Butter had the first turn. The Peanut Butter Partner would read a book from their reading folder first.
Next Jelly would read a book. Partners read their way through 5 books each. That's ten books. YES! The next day the Jelly Partner read first. It went so smooth, as smooth as... well...creamy peanut butter. (wink, wink) I decided to assign the PB&J partners. I also assigned who was Peanut Butter and who was Jelly. I did not let them choose. (They have opportunities for free choices at other times in the day.) I looked at the reading data for my students. To make it easy I will say I had 20 students. (That would be nice.) Using the reading data, I ranked the scores from highest (1) to lowest (20). Then 1(Peanut Butter) partnered with 11(Jelly) 2-12, 3-13, 4-14, 5-15, until 10-20. It was not a hard and fast rule. It is a guideline and I shifted where and when I needed to. I loved having my kinder kids work in partners through out the day. Remember Partners Are Powerful. Make It FUN And Enjoy!
Let me know what works for your partner time. I would be thrilled to hear from you. Come join me and Enjoy Making Education FUN 4 Kids! Thanks for stopping by.

WINTER WATERCOLOR
Miss Carla's Kindergarten Class I hope you enjoy your visit to my Kindergarten Classroom.
Here is Snowmen At Night, a wonderful story included in StoryTown as a Library Book. It is fun to tie Visual Arts into StoryTown, our Language Arts Program. SETTING First we studied the pictures to get clues about the setting. Where did the story happen? What time of day or night? What season of the year? We also learned that the author lived right here in Salt Lake City when they built a snowman that wandered during the night! Many of my Kinder Kids have played at Sugar House Park. They thought the sledding hill looked very familiar. It was so exciting to see familiar places in a book! WOW! The setting was something they knew! To create the setting for our snowmen we painted watercolor washes.
We reread Snowmen At Night. We looked for details in the pictures again. What were the colors? Were the colors cold? Were the colors warm. How did the sky look at night? Is the snow white or a mix of colors? So many things to notice. An artist needs a watchful eye. (Does a reader need a watchful eye?)
My Kinder Kids painted beautiful settings!
Miss Maren, our wonderful volunteer, used a three inch brush to lightly wash each paper with water. Then the Kinder Kids set to work with watercolors. They loved how the colors ran and mixed. So did I. THEN We needed to let the paintings dry. It was hard to wait.... CHARACTERS We learned characters in the story are people or animals that act like people. Well the snowmen acted like people so... they must be characters too!
We studied
Snowmen AT Night
to check out the characters. There were lots and lots of snowmen and snow-women and snow-children. Doing lots of things.
My Kinder Kids were very excited
to draw their characters.
We used pencils and markers to draw our characters. It was fun to decide what they looked like
and what they were doing.
Details are very important.
(Could that be true in reading or writing?)
We cut out our characters and glued them into the setting. Our pictures were complete but our stories were just beginning... (Can writing be art too?) ;) I decided to stop at three because I could go on and on... I have 25 Kinder Kids after all :) I hope this inspires you to roll up your sleeves and get wet with a book too. - - - I am also very excited to say that there are 3 pictures from my class shown here on the District web page.
Under-Water-Sea-Life was created while studying another StoryTown book. Can you guess which one? Drop me a hello in the comment box. I would love to hear from you.
Thanks for stopping by :)
Enjoy Making #Education FUN 4 #Kids!

We sing Brown Bear, Brown Bear to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. My Kinder Kids and I read and sing this book over and over again. Now they can read it!!! How fun is that?
Dear Reader Try singing this with your kids at home or school.
Kindergarten always has a Hokey Pokey. This Hokey Pokey has a western swing to it. My Kinder Kids taught this dance to their 4th Grade Reading Buddies today. We had a ton of fun! ! Dear Reader Thanks for stopping by :)
Try dancing this with your kids at home or school.
What dances do you teach your kids?
Let me know. I'd love to hear from you.
I'm wishing...
