I LoVE to read this book on the first day of school to help calm and comfort all my students.
I encourage them to share the story with their parents and share the secret of 
The Kissing Hand.

The next day it is a joy to see moms, dads, grandmothers and loved ones kissing the hand of their little one and saying "I love you."
I love these tender moments.

The students help me tell the story again
 and we remember The Kissing Hand. 
Then we practice remembering our own parent's love with a hand presses to our cheeks.  
Even if we did not get a kiss 
we can remember the love.

Through out the day I will see a child slip a hand to their cheek to comfort themselves
and it makes my heart glad.

All children need a way to comfort themselves.
The Kissing Hand
helps many children find comfort
 as they start school.

I remember it like yesterday though.

 I was 22 and ready for anything.

And I got it with 79 Kinder Kids.

A total of both AM & PM classes.

An amazing year.

I wonder who learned more...

me or 79 little ones?

Head, Shoulder, Knees & Toes

 has always served me well.

Now I can use it on my new smart board 

(once I figure it out).

Times have changed...

OR NOT.

If technology fails me 

I can always fall back on Tried & True

and it will still be FUN!

I just HAD to put this on my blog.

I got this email notice from Pinterest 
that Deanna Jump Pinned my
DIY EASY HEART CRAYONS!!!

I love her stuff and her blog.
I am late for school...
got to run...skip...hop...
JUMP 4 JOY!

HOWDY PARTNER!

My Kinder Kids love to work with a partner.
I love setting it up because  
I know a secret.

I tried many ways of organizing partners 
because I know there is 
Power In Partners.
It was always a bit sticky until...
I found the BEST solution.
Are you hungry to know the secret 
to making partner time work?

It is as simple as making a 
Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich.
Kids LOVE PB&J.
They know all about PB&J sandwiches
And that makes it a SNAP!

When I told my kinder kids we were going to have 
Peanut Butter & Jelly Partners...
they smiled.
When I showed the PB&J cards...
 their smiles grew.
When I slapped the PB&J cards together 
and said they would 
"stick together like a PB&J Sandwich"...
 they laughed out loud.
It was magic.  
It was FUN!
It was wonderful and it lasted all year.

It took very little explaining because they 
understood how to "stick together" 
as Peanut Butter & Jelly Partners.
Over the years I have tried partners in many ways
but it never worked without lots of explaining.
PB&J Partners made it easy and FUN.
I used Peanut Butter & Jelly Partners for 
reading and math and more.

You can do partners however you wish but I love
Peanut Butter & Jelly Partners! 
They make it more productive and FUN
and I love FUN.

I will share an example from my classroom.

We started our day with 
Peanut Butter & Jelly Partner Reading.
I would put the PB&J Cards on the white board.
A star magnet was beside the Peanut Butter Card
to show Peanut Butter had the first turn.
The Peanut Butter Partner would read a book 
from their reading folder first.

Next Jelly would read a book. 
Partners read their way through 5 books each.
That's ten books. YES!
The next day the Jelly Partner read first.
It went so smooth, as smooth as...
well...creamy peanut butter. 
(wink, wink) 

I decided to assign the PB&J partners.
 I also assigned who was Peanut Butter 
and who was Jelly.
I did not let them choose.  
(They have opportunities for free choices 
at other times in the day.)

I looked at the reading data for my students.
To make it easy I will say I had 20 students.
(That would be nice.)
Using the reading data, I ranked the scores
from highest (1) to lowest (20).
Then 1(Peanut Butter) partnered with 11(Jelly)
2-12, 3-13, 4-14, 5-15, until 10-20.
It was not a hard and fast rule.  
It is a guideline and I shifted where 
and when I needed to.

I loved having my kinder kids work in partners 
through out the day.
Remember Partners Are Powerful.
Make It FUN And Enjoy!

BOUNCY BUBBLE BLOW-OUT! DIY FUN!

We Had A Blast!
You can too.
Have FUN making your own bubbles 
to play with this Summer with this easy solution.

BOUNCY BUBBLE BLOW-OUT! 
Mix Together
1 teaspoon Glycerin
1 Tablespoon Dawn (dish soap)
1 Cup Distilled Drinking Water
Now comes the hard part!!!
Wait 24 Hours!

(The mixture must sit for 24 hours...
Magic Solutions always take time!)
ALSO
(Use a glove or sock when playing with the bubbles to keep them from popping.) 

I am making some for My SunnyDaz Kids.

They can use their Sammy The Snake puppets 
to play with the Bouncy Bubbles 
because he is made from a sock.  
Oh, this is going to be so much FUN!

So FUN!

Splash Math is a FUN way to practice math. 
It comes with a virtual aquarium where you can earn fishes and play. 

And I keep playing this.

After all I have to check it out. wink ;)

I have been playing on the free app for 1st Grade.  I can play 20 questions in a day.
It is fun and I like it.

It covers 1st Grade curriculum. 
It is aligned to the common core!!

Available at the App Store for

iPad, iPhone or iPod.

There is an app for each grade 1st up to 5th.


I am looking forward to using it on my iPods in 1st Grade.
I am going to recommend it to 
parents and teachers.

Now you are ready to read the time to the half hour times.

Now they record time as 9:30,

then 10:30 and so on.

When they are ready to tell time every half hour use the What's The Time? sheet with ten lines.

Now they record the time as 9:00, 

then 9:30, then 10:00, and so on.

It is FUN and meaningful to learn time 

in real time.
